Hometown: Caracas, Venezuela
Education: Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Florida International University
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Susana migrated to the US for the first time at the age of 11. There were no ESL classes back then, so she attended school with the rest of the students. Fully bilingual and with a strong Texan accent, she returned home at the age of 15. After finishing high school and attending college for three years in Venezuela, she returned to the US and made this country her home. A Bachelor of Science degree, a marriage and three children later she decided to change her career, this time pursuing what she believes to be her calling: teaching. After a four-year family adventure in Nicaragua, Susana has come to realize that, through education, she might be able to help her community in profound ways. Through this program, Susana hopes to gain the skills to serve as an example to her students, who she hopes to inspire through her role not only as a teacher, but more importantly as a mentor. She hopes to embrace every opportunity and learn from all those around her. Susana is most excited to work alongside professionals and other apprentices. She especially looks forward to learning from her students as well, and to being a spring board from which they can all achieve their goals.
