Education: Psychology, State University of New York at New Paltz
Jessica was born in Queens but raised in the Bronx. From a very young age, she had parents and teachers who stressed the importance of school. Her minor in Deaf studies introduced her to a new culture and language. She declared her minor because her professors, her minor advisor, and her classes each sparked her interest in working with the Deaf community. Throughout her education journey, Jessica met many amazing teachers and professors who inspired her to be part of the field of education. Each one of them helped her become a better student and overcome her shyness. She is currently volunteering for Let’s Get Ready: every Thursday night she teaches SAT verbal prep classes to high school students. Through Blue Engine, she hopes to share the importance of higher education and create a safe space for her students.
