Jessica was born in Queens but raised in the Bronx. From a very young age, her parents and teachers stressed the importance of school. Her minor in Deaf studies introduced her to a new culture and language. She declared her minor because each one of her professors, minor advisor, and classes sparked her interest in working with the Deaf community. Throughout her education journey, Jessica met many amazing teachers and professors that inspired her to be part of the field of education. Each one of them helped her become a better student and overcome her shyness. She is currently volunteering for Let’s Get Ready: every Thursday’s night she teaches verbal to high school students. Through Blue Engine, she hopes to share the importance of higher education and creating a safe space for her students.
