Tiana Palmer


Education: English, John Jay College of Criminal Justice

Placement: Urban Assembly School of Music and Art

Tiana realized her desire to work in education while attending John Jay. Impressed with her English professors and drawn to the literary world, Tiana switched her major from Forensic Science to English. She began volunteering at Star Learning Center at Goddard Community Center out of a passion for helping and sharing knowledge with othershelp and share her knowledge with others. As a volunteer, Tiana developed a special connection with her students. Meanwhile, she learned about community organizing while interning for a progressive political organization. Immediately after college she spent some time in Izmir, Turkey as an English coach for high school students. When she returned home, she became a mentor and group leader for Federation of Italian-American Organizations in an afterschool program for middle school children. Last year, she completed an internship for Pre-K For All which furthered her educational goals. She has future plans to become an educator and eventually an education policy maker.
