Sydelle is a first generation American, born and raised in NYC to Trinidadian parents. From an early age, Sydelle was taught that education was a priority. She worked hard to make something of herself so that her parents’ sacrifices would not have been in vain. It paid off when she graduated cum laude from the University at Albany in May 2016, having earned a BA in Philosophy with minors in Public Health and Bioethics. At UAlbany, Sydelle realized her passion to serve and build community amongst her peers while working as a Resident Assistant and Housing Manager for the Department of Residential Life. During her senior year, Sydelle also received the opportunity to be a Peer Educator for an introductory level Philosophy class composed mostly of college freshman. She loved being a mentor and tutor, challenging students to delve into abstract thoughts and arguments. She looks forward to being a part of Blue Engine for the 2016-2017 school year as an English Language Arts BETA in order to serve and encourage high school students in her NYC community.
