Stefanie was born and raised in sunny Southern California. In high school, she helped create a student-run club that tutored other students struggling in math. At New York University, she studied linguistics and was pre-med. While volunteering in an emergency room in Brooklyn, Stefanie saw first-hand the inequities in the medical field. This sparked her social justice nerve and led her to pursue opportunities outside of medicine where she could gain a greater understanding of the needs of lower-income communities and make a positive impact. She developed her leadership skills as a Resident Assistant at NYU and as a mentor of a group of students. She has also worked as a swim instructor to help students become water-safe. A lifetime math lover, she hopes to bring her love of numbers to students. Outside of academics, Stefanie loves swimming, cooking and baking, outdoor activities, and the United Nations. After Blue Engine, she hopes to attend medical school, practice in high-need areas, and find ways to reduce medical inequality.
