Hometown: Chicago, IL
Education: Grinnell College
Rachel grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and recently graduated from Grinnell College where she studied psychology and education policy. Having grown up in a city, Rachel is excited to leave behind the cornfields of Iowa and return to her urban roots! Rachel’s passion for education was ignited during a gap year before attending college, when she worked for City Year as a teaching assistant in a 6th grade language arts classroom. She loved working with young people in a classroom setting to help them succeed both personally and academically. This experience encouraged Rachel to pursue the field of education, which she did through her course work and hands-on extracurricular activities. While at Grinnell, one of her favorite activities was volunteering at the local high school’s writing lab where she worked one-on-one with students to improve their writing skills. Additionally, Rachel worked for Grinnell’s psychology department as a peer tutor for statistics and introductory classes. Rachel believes strongly in Blue Engine’s small group teaching model and is so excited to return to the classroom!
