Hometown: Tappan, NY
Education: Stony Brook University – Majors: Psychology, Sociology
Michelle was born and raised for most of her life in different parts of New York. To stay close to her family, she attended Stony Brook University in Long Island, where she studied psychology and sociology. For her first few summers, Michelle dedicated her time as a teacher’s assistant in a kindergarten classroom back at home. However, as her studies began to reveal the injustices that are seen in societal systems, she knew that this was something that she wanted to work to help resolve. To merge her passion for working with students with her desire to support a fair education system, Michelle worked with Jumpstart. Through this program, she was placed in kindergarten classrooms in the South Bronx to offer assistance to students, teachers and other staff. A successful completion of the program validated her desires to continue to work towards narrowing the education gap. She is excited in the new lessons she will learn and the people she will meet during her time with Blue Engine and is looking forward to the meaningful experiences ahead.
