Kalia is from Jersey City, NJ, and spent most of her childhood in the Bronx, NY. She attended high school in Jersey City, and was particularly inspired by her English teachers. She later went on to Monmouth University, where she majored in Communications and minored in Information Technology. During her time there, Kalia was involved in multiple organizations geared toward helping and mentoring children, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, ASCEND at the Boys and Girls Club, as well as high school and college transition programs. She developed leadership skills as the president of her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, as well as the National Council of Negro Women. Both of these organizations allowed Kalia to utilize her skills and join together her loves of community service and helping to form bonds between women of all backgrounds. She is very excited to be working with Blue Engine because she loves kids and teaching, and hopes to pursue a Master’s degree in School Counseling. Her ultimate goal is to become a professor who can show students that their potential is not limited by their upbringings.
