Placement: Bronx Collegiate Academy

Emmanuel was born in Ghana and migrated to the Bronx, NY, at the age of 10. He quickly learned to adapt to a new environment and now considers the Bronx to be his home. He attended Dartmouth College, double majoring in Math and Sociology. It was at Dartmouth where his passion for education was fostered. He tutored math and worked as a teacher’s assistant for Math 1, an introductory calculus course. He also wrote a thesis in Sociology on the educational experiences of children of black immigrants at Dartmouth. Last year, he had the pleasure of working as a math tutor for Match Charter Middle School in Boston. His experience at Match helped him gain better grasp of the educational gap on the ground level and the various ways educators are tackling this issue. He is hopeful that his time with Blue Engine will be just as fruitful and will help him further address the educational gaps in his own community. Emmanuel is passionate about education and the educational experiences of students of color. He hopes to attend graduate school in near future to explore and research these topics.
