Connor is a proud native of Birmingham, Alabama and alumnus of The University of Alabama, where he majored in public relations and minored in American studies. For three years, Connor served as drum major of the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band, leading the 400+ members of the marching band through seasons of Alabama football, and as an intern with the organization, Creative Campus, connecting the campus and community with arts-focused events and initiatives as an advocate for the cultural arts. Connor further pursued his academic and extracurricular interests during his summer breaks in various communication and arts-related capacities, interning with the Sidewalk Film Festival in Alabama and twice with Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina. While at UA, he helped establish and cultivate the Black Warrior Film Festival, which is an annual event that showcases student filmmakers and industry professionals. Connor also worked as a student mentor with READ Alabama, a literacy mentoring program in Tuscaloosa schools. These collective experiences, coupled with a growing interest in social justice and education, empowered him to find a voice for his passions and become a teacher in the classroom. Connor hopes to become like the educators who inspired and supported him every step of the way throughout his own education. He is honored to join Blue Engine as a 2015-16 BETA and have the opportunity to engage with high school students every day.
