A proud Xicana, Christina is a recent graduate of Cornell University with a degree in History and minors in Inequality, Latin American and Latino studies. She was raised by a strong single mother and has always lived with her extended family. She is thrilled to become a member of another family this academic year! A native of Southern California, Christina grew up in a largely Hispanic immigrant community where she personally experienced the educational barriers and inequities faced by minority and low-income students that would later draw her to Blue Engine. She has worked with impoverished students, both locally and abroad, as a mentor and tutor. Although she has focused on literacy and life skills, Christina has an interest teaching students of all ages and hopes to learn more about the intricacies of the education system. She is the first person in her family to attend college and hopes to inspire other first generation students to strive for excellence in higher education.
