Hometown: Snellville, GA
Education: Oberlin College – Majors: English and Psychology
Anna grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and moved to a small town in Ohio to complete her undergraduate degree. She initially considered paths in journalism or creative writing, but her experiences with a few extraordinary teachers led her to a dual major in English and Psychology. As a student at Oberlin, Anna worked for the school’s Dialogue Center and completed training in social justice mediation. In her sophomore year, she organized a mentoring program with the local middle school and discovered a passion for working with children. The following summer, Anna worked as a teacher and counselor at a children’s residential treatment center, and it was there that she began to understand the life-affirming effect that classrooms could have on students. That summer, Anna saw her classroom serve as a site for struggle, transformation, community strength, and incredible friendships. She returned to Oberlin deeply affected by the experience, and committed to building her skills as an educator and mentor. In stepping into her new role with Blue Engine, she aims to cultivate a supportive classroom that actively empowers all students. She is immensely eager for the journey ahead, wherever it may lead.
