Anna is excited to return to Blue Engine for a second year and continue to explore her love of education and her commitment to supporting student growth. She began teaching flute lessons in high school and carried her love of music to college, where she developed valuable leadership and teamwork skills as a member of the Michigan Marching Band. Always one to jump in one hundred percent, Anna furthered these skills by getting involved in the Basketball Pep Band and by joining the national honorary band service society. In her junior and senior years, Anna oversaw the recruitment and training process for new members, which allowed her to gain valuable experience both in teaching and in leading. Beyond the band room, Anna developed her skills in the realm of education through a job as a Team-building Facilitator at her school’s Challenge Course. In this role, Anna developed her understanding of experiential learning and team dynamics while she working with diverse groups of people. Anna believes that creativity in the classroom is key, as she has experienced first hand the amazing impact of art and music on one’s educational and emotional development. She was able to explore this further in her senior year by volunteering in a juvenile prison where she worked with an incarcerated youth to complete an creative writing portfolio. Anna is so grateful for the experiences and people that have helped her along the path to becoming a BETA and cannot wait for the coming year as part of the Blue Engine team.
